Green Energy
Tainan City has a strong clustering advantage in the green energy industry, including system integration, energy generation, energy conservation, and energy storage companies. The city has a well-established upstream, midstream, and downstream industrial base, forming a comprehensive green energy supply chain and industrial cluster.
Since 2016, the City Government has worked with the central government to promote the development of the Shalun Smart Green Energy Science City. Its core vision is to develop smart green energy and emerging technologies, building an integrated industrial cluster covering research and development, production, and marketing.
By providing comprehensive testing and validation environments, the initiative aims to stimulate industrial development, enhance energy self-sufficiency, and expand domestic demand markets. It also connects with surrounding R&D institutions, science parks, and industrial parks to strengthen collaboration among industry, academia, and research institutes, thereby enhancing industrial competitiveness and expanding global markets for green energy technologies.
Tainan is gradually positioning itself as a key green energy hub in the Asia-Pacific region and contributing to global goals of energy conservation and sustainability.
In the future, the City Government will continue to cooperate with central government policies to improve the functions of the science city, attract talent from across Taiwan, and promote industrial development. It aims to become a benchmark city in environmental protection, sustainability, and technology, providing international cooperation opportunities.
In addition, the City Government assists in organizing the "Taiwan Green Technology Industry Alliance," bringing together companies in materials, energy conservation, and renewable energy sectors. This encourages R&D investment and strategic collaboration among industry, government, academia, and research institutes, enhancing industrial transformation and expanding domestic demand.
The government continues to promote a green consumption ecosystem platform, providing green enterprises and consumers with services for green product transactions, technology matchmaking, and green investment opportunities. Current policies include subsidies for solar photovoltaic systems and local SBIR programs, encouraging green technology applications, R&D innovation, and demonstration projects to drive industry development.
Biotechnology
Tainan City has three major sub-industries in biotechnology: pharmaceuticals, applied biotechnology, and medical devices, with more than 400 companies forming a complete industrial cluster.
Since 2010, the City Government has supported the establishment of the "Taiwan Biotechnology Industry Alliance" and continues to promote industry collaboration by encouraging local enterprises to join the platform, strengthening interaction among companies and between industry and government.
Over the past decade, the alliance has continuously organized seminars and networking events, assisted members in obtaining R&D funding and exhibition subsidies, and participated in domestic and international trade shows. The City Government also supports product certification, testing, and assists enterprises in accessing central government resources, helping local industries develop and positioning Tainan as a key industrial and economic hub.
Fashion Design
The fashion design industry is one of the six key emerging industries actively promoted by the City Government. Tainan is a major hub for textiles, apparel, and footwear industries, with a well-established supply chain.
To promote collaboration, the City Government has built a platform integrating cross-industry and interdisciplinary cooperation, joint R&D, co-marketing, and international exhibitions. This led to the establishment of the "Formosa Fashion Industry Alliance" in 2013, encouraging youth participation and fostering a new chapter of local fashion development in Tainan.
In the future, the City Government will continue to promote support policies, including subsidies for exhibitions, forums, seminars, and entrepreneurship meetups. It will also integrate academic and research resources to help enterprises access central and local government funding, supporting technology development, new product innovation, and cross-sector collaboration to drive continuous innovation in the industry.
