Tainan City's Innovative Research and Development for Local Industries Project
The Tainan City Government pioneered the Local Industrial Innovation and Research & Development Program (Local
SBIR) to reduce R&D risks for SMEs and encourage small and medium-sized enterprises to invest in innovation and R&D.
Briefing sessions are held in March each year, and applications are accepted from March to April. The
program is expected to support 50–60 companies annually.
1. Eligibility:
Enterprises registered in Tainan City that meet the "SME Definition Standards" and have completed company or
business registration in accordance with the law are eligible.
The implementation site of the proposed project
must be within Tainan City. Branch offices or factories registered in Tainan alone are not eligible.
2. Application Categories:
- Fashion & Design: design and creativity-related industries.
- High-Value Food & Pharma: biotechnology and food industries.
- 5G Leadership: consumer goods and chemicals, electronic components manufacturing, and power equipment
manufacturing.
- Digital Transformation & Smart Mobility: innovative information services, smart manufacturing, metal and
machinery industries.
- Green Energy Technology: environmental protection-related industries.
- Startups: companies established within the past 5 years.
3. Application Period: Announced annually.
Results of the Tainan City Local SBIR Program (2011–2023)
From 2011 to 2023, the program supported a total of 930 companies, generating over NT$10 billion in industrial
output.
